Thanksgiving at the farm, 1923, with some of the cast
Am so excited for your start on Monday!!!beautiful colors in your watercolor!
This photo brought tears to my eyes, especially when I spotted my father!
Hi Linda – yes, it’s always great to look at these old photos. But hard to be missing the ones we love and the old days of getting together at the farm.
Hi Carol,
My mother, Janet Magee Self spent time visiting your mom at the farm often during her youth. We heard her speak often of how she enjoyed being there. I would be curious to know if you have old photos of the farm and cows as I’m trying to put together a book with Tarn Granucci on Wallingford farms of all types. For instance there were over seventy-five dairy farms in town during the 1940’s. To date, library searches reveal little information about all of the agricultural pursuits of our past, so we feel the least we can do is put as much info in the form of old photographs and stories as possible in book form.
With high regards,
Craig Self
This is in response to Craigs request. I know you mentioned dairy farms and I grew up on the west side near the farms on both sides of Highland Ave..and the McNally farm where Sheehan High school, Our Lady of Fatima church and a development now sit. I also recall that our childhood home at 147 Highland and the homes around and beside it were once a mink farm. The homes were built around 1955 or so, at least that’s when my fa mily moved here from N.Y. I always thought that was kind of interesting. The barn was originally on the property next door
I wasn’t that familiar with the farms on the West side, except for the Hall Brother’s hatchery. There was also a mink farm on East Center Street down below the Beaumont’s farm. In the hot weather the smell was overwhelming, and when we lived up the hill from there on East Center Street we could tell that the minks were nearby.
