On April 7, 2014, my first post on this blog about Whirlwind Hill will appear here. I hope you’ll join me on Mondays, Wednesdays, and the occasional Friday as I share my memories of our family farm in Wallingford, Connecticut.

This has been a long time coming and a lot of work for you, Carol, I know.
Congratulations!!! SO exciting. I’m so proud of you!
And now! Here we go with “On Whirlwind Hill”!!
May we learn about our connections and love each other all the more.
I am so happy to see this!! What a wonderful place and time Whirlwind Hill was for all of us! So many great memories and you’ll be able to capture and share both with words and images beautifully! Thank you for this labor of love!!
I look forward to your Whirlwind Hill post. It is the beginning for a few of your long time friends and classmates. I love seeing your paintings, and can appreciate the work involved. With this last move to Arizona, we are still unpacking and I an anxious to get back to my quilting.
Carol, your sketches evoke memories of family Thanksgiving hikes from South Main St. to the Farm. We would finish our trek walking through the fields to the south of the barn, seeing the vista you have drawn in your first piece. Turkey, eclairs, and touch football were waiting!
I always was jealous that you got to hike to the farm. I remember the touch football with Norton boys could get a bit brutal! Looked forward to those eclairs all day.
A perfect time for the launch of your blog, Cuz. We’ve had a prolonged and relentless winter in Connecticut and I look forward to the reawakening of Whirlwind Hill through your wonderfully evocative words, drawings and paintings. Not to mention looking forward to being ON Whirlwind Hill with you in a few weeks! (And did I say I’m in utter awe of your dedication and commitment to this project?) ❤
Great idea- We have fun memories of plunking targets with a 22 with your Dad on the back 40 and Kathleen borrowing your Mom’s skates to go skating on the pond just behind your house.
I remember softball games on the hill beside the driveway and using paper plates for bases. I also remember apple pies cooling on the porch ledge at Grandma Hall’s house.
so excited about this Carol!! will be checking in often to keep in touch with you all-our wonderful family! still enjoying last years reunion-[last visit with my brother, Jon. so glad we were all there]
Hi Carol! What a treat! Thank you for sharing your memories and pictures. Whirlwind – and all the people there – had such an impact on my life. It’s nice to go back there through your blog.
Hi Sue! So glad to see you here. I tried to email you about the blog, but must have had the wrong address. Anyway – here we are back on Whirlwind Hill.
I,too, grew up on Whirlwind Hill..over the hill and down a little farther. When I saw that photo of Lydia Jane Hart I was reminded fondly of my mother-in-law, Lydia Hall Teter, her namesake. I remember so many fun times at your grandparents house. I do remember being there when the pies were cooling on the porch!! She always made so many at one time. I think Glenna and Barbara helped her.
And you grew up on the farm that I think was actually called “Whirlwind Hill Farm.” Do you know if that’s the case?
I am trying to remember those pies. I do remember eating them. Especially the ones made by Glenna, which were always fantastic.
This is wonderful Carol! Although I’ve never been there, I can almost taste and smell and feel how it was for you growing up loving this special place. The photo of you as a one year old looks so much like you that I would have known it was you before you told me. This is my first experience with a blog, so I hope I’m doing it the correct way. Can I share the blog address with my sister Judy who lives in Guilford? Her email is jharmony@aol.com We will be in Guilford the second week of May on our way up to Maine. Hope we get to see you this summer in Maine.
Hi Joanie. Thank you so much. Yes, please feel free to share. You can just sign her up as a subscriber, or I can do it if you want. It’s very easy. It would be fun to get together in Maine again.

Hi Karen. Nice to see your name here. Hope you’re enjoying life in Arizona. An easier winter there this year for sure.
We can’t wait, Carol. This is a great idea and will be meaningful to many of us.
Best wishes. Let us know if we can help. A&P
Thanks Anne and Pete. You have always been such a big part of Whirlwind Hill for me.
Can’t wait, Carol. All the Fosters will be very excited about your efforts.

Good to hear from you Skip. I still have those skates.

I love hearing other people’s memories. I do remember those paper plates but not the pies. Thanks Jeannie!

Maybe you could sign Judy up so it’s done right. Look forward to more about this magical place. I can just picture those pies cooling on the porch….
